Printing Specialist

Major duties and responsibilities include:
Receives, reviews and prioritizes all incoming printing and/or device duplication requisitions for completeness, accuracy, conformance to requirements, and proper format. Meets, discusses, coordinates and fills requests for internal customers; and external customers. Analyzes electronic files and/or hard copies for proper conformity and operates digital duplicating and press equipment for mass reproduction purposes. Assists editors/writers of programs, books, trifolds, forms, booklets, certificates, brochures, invitations, menus, pamphlets, flyers, cards, signage, labels, etc. during the development stage to ensure suitable layout and format for reproduction. Answers technical questions and recommends and initiates solutions to resolve operational problems. Maintains accurate maintenance and contract records for equipment, operations and continuance. Tracks and maintains records reflecting status of printing jobs conducted, costs, suspense controls, and automated programs to facilitate, enhance and report reproductive/printing operations. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note:

Specialized Experience At The GS-7 Level:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Determining specifications for the printing of manuscript, i.e., selection of typography, layout, composition, format, paper stock, and other printer's instructions; Negotiating or administering contracts for procurement of manuscript and illustrations, printing, binding and allied services, or printing stocks (paper, inks, etc.); Managing a printing plant that produces printing either for the government or private industry customers; Performing production control work in a large printing plant; Serving as a sales representative for a wide variety of printing equipment; Analyzing the price and cost of preparation and production of printing; Planning, estimating, and scheduling printing on a full-time basis for a variety of publications; Performing substantive administrative support or policy functions directly related to publishing and printing program management or operations.(THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.) OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement leading to such a degree or completed an L.L.B or J.D. with major study in journalism, business administration, English composition, commerce, accounting, printing or printing engineering, graphic or commercial art, industrial engineering, or economics. You must possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-7 level. Physical Requirements:
The work requires long periods of standing, reaching, stooping, and bending during the operation and adjustment of the equipment. Hand dexterity is required. Occasionally, the work requires the employee to lift light to moderately heavy (40lbs) items such as boxes of paper stock, publications, ink cartridges, and equipment supplies. Heavier items are moved with carts. The environment is air conditioned. There is noise due to the sounds of the equipment in operation. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
