As a Mail Clerk within the Earthquake Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
- Provide delivery of incoming mail and pick up of outgoing mail once per day, within a specified time frame. - Receive and sign for controlled communications. - Ensure that an authorized recipient signs for all accountable mail. -Occasionally will handle mail that may be sensitive, confidential, biochemical or hazardous. -Acts as both activator and registrar for USAccess PIV (Personal Identity Verification) cards for the Menlo Park campus. - Maintain mailroom facilities in a clean, neat, and orderly manner at all times with safety in mind. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is primarily non-sedentary with walking and heavy lifting over 50 pounds being a major component of the work. Work is performed across a 16-acre campus and employee will be exposed to biochemical and hazardous materials and inclement weather conditions while delivering and picking-up mail. Applicants must have four years above high school (two years of which must be upper division classes at a four-year college or university) OR 1-year of specialized experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Sorting, delivering mail; signing for controlled mail; obtaining signatures for accountable mail; sorting and delivering packages. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
