Addiction Therapist

Duties to include but are not limited to:
Serves as primary counselor for assigned patients. Deals with day to day clinical issues or patient problems and brings these problems or issues to the attention of the treatment team. Conducts lectures and hold individual and group counseling sessions on a broad range of therapeutic topics designed to motivate and direct dual diagnosis patients with more complex psychiatric as well as chemical abuse problems, toward a more healthy and drug free lifestyle. Assists patients in accepting their substance abuse/mental illness and motivates them to comply with treatment goals and objectives in order to prevent relapse and maintain stability. Conducts counseling with patients and families to sustain the treatment gains made in the program. Fully participates in administrative meetings, treatment planning and patient/staff conferences Observes patient behavior and discuss with appropriate staff to unsure that attention is given to changes in patient progress or motivation and that clinic and medical center rules and policies are followed. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Degree:
Applicants must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in behavioral or social science; or in a discipline appropriate to an Addiction Therapist. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) OR Combination of Education/
Experience:
Applicants must have a combination of education and experience that provided knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field of Addiction Therapy.(TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) OR Four years of Appropriate
Experience:
Applicants possess appropriate experience that demonstrates that they have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field of Addiction Therapy. Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
providing therapeutic counseling for chemically dependency patients; observation and documentation of patient behavior and reaction patterns; prepare, contribute to and modify treatment plans with multidisciplinary team members; utilization of assessment to identify problems and needs of patients; understanding unique needs of patient; providing advice and guidance to patients regarding benefits and eligibility for services within the community; providing presentations to organizations, therapeutic groups and other interest group. OR Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed 2 years of graduate education leading to a Master's degree, or possession of a Master's degree or other equivalent graduate degree in a field related to Addiction Therapy. OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and graduate level education. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of the work are generally minor. Most of the work is performed in an office or group therapy room while sitting, standing or walking. Mild physical activity may be expected if or when facilitating or co-facilitating recreational or fitness activities. The position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle, and off-station travel by automobile may be required. Current driver's license is required. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
